I am here in the library researching my english culminating activity. I'm doing the stock character of the fool. My opinion is that the fool is often the character that displays the most wisdom & truth. They are greatly underestimated and only called a fool because they have different ideas and ways than the majority of the popoulation. They seem to be "simple", but infact can be the wisest of all. They are often misunderstood.
It occured to me that I am and always have been the fool. People have taken me for their own personal court jester. I have been there as a form of amusment only. If I were to show genuine emotion or serious thought I was disregarded. Nothing I have said or thought or felt has ever really been taken into account. Well, I will no longer be your fool. I am a person, not a living peice of entertainment. Iam not here to simply be the butt of your hurtful jokes. I am not your clown. I cannot pretend to be interested in only your entertainment. I am not simply laughter and smiles. I am sad and angry and negative sometimes and it is the repression of those feelings by you that has lead to the way that I am today. No person, however positive, can be joyful all the time. Everyone has sorrow and a certain weight on their souls. If that sorrow is never expressed in a healthy way, the individual must find other ways to express or repress these feelings. This is what has happened to me. I am tired of being what I have always been, a repressed fool. The wiseman will learn more from the fool than the fool will learn from the wiseman. ~PenguinGirl is the fool |
