Boycott Blu-Ray
Alrighty, well it's been a while since I've been on Diaryland and the design has changed a bit, a little disorienting, but I'm sure I'll get over it. Besides, now I know how Bernice felt when I went through that phase when I changed my template virtually every week.

Well, nothing too much to report. It's not that I sat in a bare room since the last time I updated. Things happened, but I feel like I'm so far behind on updates, that at this point if I were to explain my current situation it would be far too confusing. I know only one person reads this, but still... So, instead I will go on a rant about one of my least favorite things happening in my life right now: Blu-ray discs.

Anyone who talks to me on a regular basis has already heard this, but everytime my rant gets both more refined and more angry.

I walked into Queen Video on Bloor today (one of the best video places in the city) and I was deeply disturbed to see that they had a Blu-ray section. Sure, it was extremely small, smaller even than the VHS section, but this is how it starts. Now movies are being advertised as out on DVD and Blu-Ray. I remember back in the late '90s/early 2000s when movies started being advertised as out on VHS and DVD. I was convinced that it was a fad that would pass and I could continue to play my trusty ol' menuless VHS tapes. Here I am eight years later and I'm pretty sure they don't even release new movies on VHS anymore. The fact is though, I don't know about everybody else, but I just made the switch (begrudingly) about five years ago. Sure, I recognize that DVD's are superior to VHS, but I very much doubt that Blu-ray or HD-DVD (yeah, I have not forgotten HD-DVD in my little rant.) can really say that they're that much better than DVD. Listen, I can see the people on my screen just fine as it is. I do not desire to see every single line and hair in their bodies. Recently someone told me that I would in fact love these new formats because they have cool features, for instance you can watch two seperate scenes in a movie at the same time (a la picture and picture). My question, not only to this person, but in fact to the entire industry is: WHY THE FUCK WOULD I EVER WANT TO DO THAT?!?! Call me ola fashioned, but I always thought that scenes were meant to be watched one at a time. Not only that, but the order and timing of the scenes have already been put together by the writers and filmmakers. Everyone nowadays has about a three second attention span, do you think anyone really will be able to pay attention to two scenes at once? People just want to watch a movie!!! So, everyone out there next time you see a Blu-ray/HD-DVD section in a store turn to the discs and state in a calm yet loud voice: "BOYCOTT!", then grab the first dvd (or better yet, VHS) you see and buy it. If enough people do this, they'll get the point! This guy knows what I'm saying.
